California is the United State’s most populous state and largest economy. It’s home to some of the world’s most valuable companies, such as Apple and Google. It is also home to most of the entertainment and music industry, and serves as the bread and fruit basket for the United States at large. Taken by itself, California is currently the world’s 5th largest economy.

And this gives California a unique power over the United States and the world at large.
